Remainder of June and July 2020
Oops! As I was preparing photos to post from July I realized I forgot to post quite a few photos from our June adventures! Here you go...
Another boy from Max's Den named Steven was first in their age group at the Pack level, so we had fun seeing him at the District race! (Max is wearing the "Class B" uniform, hence the more casual look.) At the District level, Steven came in 5th and Max came in 8th (out of 10, I believe). They were disappointed to not win, but still had a really fun time!

Ben and Peggy went out of town one weekend and were kind enough to let us, the Winiarski's, and the Krueger's stay at the house to enjoy a little weekend getaway at the lake! We often go on a week-long summer vacation together, so this was a treat since normal vacation plans got wiped out.

No clue what's happening here, but clearly she is having fun! Haha
Natalia was eating the end of the cantelope and was being very dramatic about how delicious it tasted. Funny girl! :-)

Denise came across a bunch of pictures on her phone from when the kids were babies / toddlers and they loved ooh-ing and ahh-ing over themselves.

Ben's parents are getting ready to sell his grandparent's home in Gainesville (Ben Sr.'s childhood home). Ben took Max up to Gainesville one day to show him around - they had a really nice trip down memory lane!
Stopped off a the Collegiate Grill on the Gainesville downtown square for hamburgers and milkshakes!
Max's Den leader did a few virtual Cub Scout meetings. One was about bike safety, so after we did the online portion of the lesson we headed to the park to practice and take photos to show Max completed the activity!
Tie dye with Mom!
The Habitat for Humanity house that I (Laura) worked on is done! Max came to the house dedication with me and drew this picture for the family. He even customized the color of the door and shutters to match their real house, and he drew them looking out the window. :-)
I didn't get a picture of me and Max at the dedication (doh!) but it was great to have him there to make the connection between the lemonade stand he ran last summer to raise money and all the time I've been away at meetings, construction days, etc. As they often say, more is caught than taught!

Max did the summer reading program at the library again this year and earned an ice cream cone! We did the drive-through, so they were kind enough to put our cones upside down in cups for easier transport home. It was a delicious treat!
Tie dye results! All the smaller squares are rags and the larger squares are cloth napkins that Max is going to use in his lunchbox for school. He LOVES it and is excited to use them.
We did some clothing, too! (And yes, that's some tie dyed little boy underwear. Haha!)
Max and I wore our new tie dye PJ's and he decided this is how we needed to pose!
One morning Max woke up and declared that we were going to have "reading fest." This means we snuggled in bed and read our own books for almost two hours. I loved it!! So happy to be raising a fellow bookworm!
Apparently muscle arms and an open mouth is the only acceptable pose when wearing tie dye!
We entered Max in a scholarship content (didn't get picked,but her sure does look cute in all his GA Tech gear and snap circuits!)
Back in January, Max's Cub Scout Pack hosted the Pinewood Derby and Max placed 2nd in his age group! This means he made it to the District level race which unfortunately was scheduled right as everything was shutting down due to COVID so it got cancelled. They rescheduled the District Pinewood Derby at this huge outdoor Cub Scout / Boy Scout place (actually, same spot where we went for the camp-out last fall!).
Max's car is fourth from the left - black, white headlights, duct tape around the middle. He named it, "Venom."
As luck would have it, we ran in to Max's best friend from YMCA summer camp, Michael! Michael is in a different Pack than Max, and we had no idea he was going to be at the Derby race. These two boys became SO close at summer camp -- even the counselors who supervise completely different groups have commented on their friendship! It was so nice to finally meet Michael after hearing about him most every day, and also to meet his parents and exchange phone numbers so we can get together for a play date sometime. (Michael's car won a top spot, hence the medal!)
Max and Saskia were really "in to" hunting for and catching fireflies. An action shot of the hunt below!
Not sure why Saskia looks so serious. Haha I think there were 8-10 in the jar in the photo below, but by the time we reigned the kids in they'd caught about 20 fireflies! They worked out a great system: Max got really good at spotting the fireflies, and Saskia is SO FAST and was able to capture the fireflies in her hands almost every time. It was impressive!
Thank goodness for timers and tripods so we could get a group photo!
Now... on to July!

Funny side story -- After the dye sets overnight you have to leave the rubber bands on and rinse under cold running water until it runs clear. I did the rinsing in the tub, and then Max would remove the rubber bands. Every single time (and we had about 20 items) after taking off the bands he'd say in a loud announcer voice, "Are you ready.... for the BIG REVEAL!!" and then he'd straighten out the item to see how the design turned out. His enthusiasm on the very last piece was just as enthusiastic as the first piece!
